BIOCHEMIC REMEDIES (“Cell Salts”)
In the summer of 2012, my family and I were vacationing in Garmisch-Parkenkirchen, Germany. As we were leisurely walking down a main street looking for a place to eat dinner, my eight year-old son shouted, “Papa, look... the cell salts!” He was referring to the huge display for cell salt remedies in the window of a local pharmacy.  I later learned from my relatives how well-known and common these remedies are among the German population.

Also known as tissue salts or cell salts, biochemic remedies are homeopathically prepared ingredients from vital mineral sources. Tissue salts are important for the proper functioning, maintenance, rebuilding and detoxification of bodily cells. They harmonize bodily functions and improve the absorption of nutrients from food and drinks. These remedies are especially great for children and the elderly.

The biochemic remedies were developed by Dr. Wilhelm Scheussler, a German physician in the late 1800’s.  Dr. Scheussler made the cell salts from the basic mineral compounds that he found critical to cells in the body, such as calcium and potassium compounds.They are an excellent support to constitutional homeopathic care or during acute care. When one or more of these cell salts become deficient then biochemical imbalances occur within our cells and tissues, enabling chronic conditions to arise.

Many people take mineral supplements, but cell salts are thought to be easier for the body to assimilate, and thus are able to work faster and more gently to correct imbalances. Biochemic remedies are specially formulated in homeopathic micro-doses, making them safe for the whole family including children over one year of age. With our society’s increasing reliance on highly processed foods, keeping a healthy balance of minerals in the body is a major challenge for us today- that explains perhaps the ever-growing, worldwide popularity of the tissue salt remedies.
